Do you love to sit and watch or listen to birds sing outside your window? You can introduce or encourage birds to stay longer in your garden by supplying food and shelter and a safe place to build a nest.

While you are waiting for your trees to establish or when their usual nectar producing plants are not in flower you can make a sweet drink, nectar seeking birds like Tuis, Bellbirds and Waxeyes will love.

Dissolve about 1/3 of a cup of sugar in 500ml of warm water. When cool pour it into a container or your bird feeder.
